Readability

Tired of not being able to read web pages because the type is either too small, too pale, or badly formatted? Try either or both of these javascript 'Favelets'.

The first one gets rid of styling which may make your web reading difficult. See this word->  MAGIC

Click and hold it while dragging it to your bookmarks bar. You will be creating a bookmarklet called MAGIC but you can change its name if you like.

For an example of what it does, go to Bloomberg News which has a black background with orange text links. Click MAGIC once in your bookmarks bar and watch what happens. You can use this for any site you like that you might want to read but find unreadable. You can thank me later though I found this at 456bereastreet years ago.

The second is from LabArc90 and is called Readability. It goes even further than Magic by only displaying the main body of the text in a single column with a large font on a white background. Click this thumbnail for a full-size image of what it does to this post.

Try them both on a Mac or on Windows and see what you think. Your eyes are not getting any younger.

How to Make Your Own vCard.

Have you ever received an email with a vCard? vCard When you double-click it, OSX's AddressBook automatically opens and populates a card with the address information of the person who sent it. Have you wondered how to make your own and then add it to email that you send?

It is actually quite simple. Go to your address card in AddressBook. You created one when you first opened your Mac when it was new. Check to see that all the details are correct and they are as much or as little as you would like to give out. Then go to File > Export... > Export vCardand Save it somewhere where you will know where it is.

If you don't use Apple Mail, you can always attach the vCard to any or all emails but an easier way is to make a Mail signature with it. In Mail > Preferences > Signatures click the + button in the middle column and name it vCard. Clear the default text from the right hand column and then drag and drop the vCard into the empty pane. It will be there for the future even if you delete the first vCard you made.
